Installation Issues
Fix BIMPulse installer problems: administrator rights, setup messages, "Setup failed" errors, stuck updates, and doing a clean reinstall.
Navisworks Manage 2025–2027 · Updated
Quick checks
Most installation problems come down to one of these:
- Close Navisworks first. Close every Navisworks window before you install, update, or uninstall. Navisworks keeps plugin files locked while it runs.
- Use an administrator account. BIMPulse installs for every user on the computer, so Windows asks for administrator permission. Click Yes. If you don't have administrator rights, ask your IT team to run the installer for you.
- Check .NET Framework. BIMPulse and its installer are built for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8.1. The installer doesn't add it for you, so if setup won't open, make sure Windows is up to date and .NET Framework 4.8.1 is installed.
- Sign in to download. The installer is on the Downloads tab of your dashboard, so you need to be signed in at bimpulse.ai. You don't need a paid license to download it.
Setup messages and what to do
The BIMPulse Navisworks Setup window checks your computer before it shows any buttons. Here's what its messages mean.
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ready to install BIMPulse Navisworks. | BIMPulse isn't installed yet. | Click Install. |
| Existing installation (version …) detected. | An older version of BIMPulse is installed. | Click Install to replace it with the version you downloaded. If an Upgrade button is also shown, it downloads and installs the newest release instead. Either one removes the old version. |
| BIMPulse Navisworks is already installed. | This version is already on the computer. | Nothing to do. To reinstall it, click Uninstall, then run the installer again. |
| A newer version of BIMPulse Navisworks is already installed. | You ran an older installer than the version you have. | Close setup and keep the version you have. To go back to an older version on purpose, uninstall first. |
| Upgrade Available! | A newer release of BIMPulse has been published. | Click Upgrade to download and install it. |
When setup finishes, the status reads BIMPulse Navisworks has been installed. (or has been removed.) and the window closes by itself.
Setup failed
If something goes wrong, the status changes to Setup failed. with a detail line underneath, for example The installer encountered an error. followed by an error code in brackets that starts with 0x. Note the code, then:
Close Navisworks and try again
Check that no Navisworks windows are open, including ones on other Windows accounts on the same computer.
Download a fresh copy
Download the installer again from Downloads, in case the first download was incomplete.
Restart Windows
Restart the computer, then run the installer before opening Navisworks.
If it still fails, contact support with the message and code.
Problems updating
When you close Navisworks and a newer version is available, BIMPulse downloads the update and Windows asks for permission to install it.
- You clicked No, or the prompt didn't appear: BIMPulse checks again the next time you close Navisworks. You can also update from Account Settings with the Update button, as described in Installing BIMPulse.
- The update didn't finish: close Navisworks, download the latest installer from the Downloads tab in your dashboard, and run it. It replaces the version you have.
Do a clean reinstall
Close Navisworks
Close every Navisworks window.
Uninstall BIMPulse
In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find BIMPulse Navisworks, and choose Uninstall.
Check the plugin folder is gone
Make sure
C:\no longer exists. If it does, delete it.ProgramData\ Autodesk\ ApplicationPlugins\ BIMPulse.Navisworks.bundle Install again
Download the latest installer from your dashboard and run it.
Your settings are kept
Uninstalling doesn't delete your BIMPulse settings, hotkeys, or search set templates. They're stored in %APPDATA%\ and are picked up again after you reinstall.
Contact support
If none of this helps, contact support and include:
- The exact message and code setup showed.

- Whether you were installing for the first time, updating, or uninstalling.
